The NEW New York Giants

I’m not going to go onto my roof and shout “the NY Giants are going to the Super Bowl”… that’s a wild stretch. But with everything that this team has been hit with in the 1st quarter of the NFL season, it’s safe to say that this team is going to be fun to watch for the rest of the season.

I know the first thing a lot of people are going to say is that they beat the Titans and the Cardinals, and yeah, that’s true… but those are teams you’re supposed to beat. Those games weren’t perfect either, but when you consider how they lost a lot of games last year, it’s pretty awesome to see them get stops when it matters. Granted, those final possessions were stressful AF, but it’s pretty cool to see them step up at points where they just couldn’t the year prior… ALSO at the position that was a HUGE cause for concern going into the season.

The Giants’ next 5 games are against teams with a combined 5-14. Three of those games being against NFC rivals, Commanders who haven’t looked great at all and right after their bye week, the Eagles who have been struggling. There’s a very big chance, barring any craziness, the Giants can come out of that stretch 8-1 or 7-2.

This team hasn’t looked perfect, but when you consider Dart going down very early in game 2, and game 3 being played in a nor-eastern storm you kind of have to give their offense the benefit of the doubt. Despite the 2 INTs that Jameis Winston threw against the Cardinals, he looked pretty good. With the weapons they have on offense, and a VERY good offensive line, you gotta imagine they’ll be explosive this year.

On the other side of the field, even after losing Brian Burns, their front 7 is still one of the scariest in the league. Losing him obviously hurts, but they’re loaded with talent there. The one question mark they had going into this season was their defensive backfield, but even that part of our defense seems to be falling into place. Jevon Holland has been a beast, and if Deonte Banks and Greg Newsome II can stay healthy, QBs might have a hard time connecting with receivers.

They’re sure as hell not world stoppers, but there’s comradery there and a coach who has seemed to built a culture in his short time on the team.  It’s still heartbreaking that Jaxson Dart has to sit this season out, but it really does seem like he’ll be walking back on the field, leading an actual contender.
